thinking: how lovely the day has been – weather and time/task wise. we’re having a brief respite from the cold that greeted us at week’s beginning, tho’ that’s to be short-lived, perhaps accompanied by snow Sun and Mon. In these parts, time will tell… if you look closely, you can see the beginnings of January’s full Wolf Moon, to appear Monday evening…

gratitude: yesterday morning I went “grocery shopping” at 8 am; hadn’t been at that time since the pandemic began in 2020. t’was a good time of day, limited shoppers, traffic and for the most part, shelves were stocked. for the drive home, I treated myself to a decaf hot latte – pretzel spice. didn’t much like; I’ll choose a different flavor next time…

inspired: this “cozy quilt embroidery sampler” strikes my fancy. it’s a stitch-along designed and created by Celeste Johnson of Lemon Made Shop. Tho’ the quilt along is already underway this month, I just discovered it today. Looking over the supply list, I have scissors, needles, a needle minder, probably an embroidery hoop and possibly muslin or Kona cotton. No doubt my mother had some of the supplies; I imagine they are still here…if not, I’ll get (any excuse to go shopping, even if it’s only virtual). I am adding to my 2022 to be stitched list that I am thinking will be my focus for the 2022 #the100dayproject that starts February 13…

fun: for nearly two years, I’ve joined Daily Pages, created by rukristin of the awesome ladies project; the photo is the page I made today. the photo of the salad is what inspired me…especially the statement on the salad. and yes, I am thinking seriously about a vegan diet…moving into it slowly.

Have a good weekend.

Cheers~

  1. We’re mostly vegetarian in our house mixed with meatasaurasus…Brin was Vegan but missed cheese and eggs but Kathy A. and her family are vegan and there are so many really good and close substitutes it can be a smooth transition. Good for you! 😉

  2. My wonderful sister-in-law has maintained a vegan diet for several years. She occasionally splurges on some seafood, but it’s a rare occasion. I could easily go vegetarian (Tracy could not), but I struggled when I tried vegan. The lack of eggs was the major stumbling block for me, although I do try to limit it, I do like cheese as well. I doubt there’s much chance of seeing the full moon here on Monday. They’re predicting 8-14 inches of snow. If you wonder why the huge range, much of our snow is “lake effect” and very hard to predict. I have to make a grocery run tomorrow morning, and have no need to leave the house again until Friday!

  3. I don’t think I could ever go fully vegan (I like my dairy products too much), but I could easily be a vegetarian again. There are so many delicious plant-based meals out there. I wish I could convince my family to eat more of them!

Before kiddo was born, I used to get up early on Saturdays to do the grocery shopping. I loved being able to get it out of the way early in the weekend and without too many other people around. I haven’t done it in a while, but I did have to go to Trader Joe’s a few weeks ago after they were out of several things we needed on our regular trip. I went right after they opened and it was such a treat to be in a fully stocked store with very few other people.

  4. We’re mostly vegetarian here . . . but I’m not willing (yet) (maybe someday?) to make the jump to vegan-all-the-time. (I do cook many vegan recipes, but I also like eggs and cheese too much to give them up entirely.) I’ll be eager to hear about any great meals you particularly enjoy.

  5. oh I LOVE that stitching sampler – and I laughed out loud about the vegan diet … you know, because cheese is hands down my favorite food group. I don’t eat a lot of meat, but there is a LOT of dairy in my diet!

  6. I think that little embroidery sampler is just lovely – my Mum would have adored it! So pleased you’ve been enjoying a respite in the winter weather – those blue skies are so uplifting. Intrigued about your possible shift into a vegan diet; I’ve been vegetarian for forty-five years, and on a mostly plant-based diet for the last two years – my only caveat is that I have to work very hard to make sure I am getting enough calcium for my bones. It has certainly helped with a health issue I’ve had, just as it did forty years ago when it helped me recover from chronic fatigue syndrome. I look forward to reading more!

  7. I recently read that a vegan is a person who is morally opposed to consuming animal products of any sort so I am trying to avoid vegan as a designation. Plant based whole food feels more like what I am aiming for – lots of veggies but making space for the occasional cheese or salmon. There are some amazing resources out there now. Any changes you make will give you a chance to notice if those changes are helping you feel your best self. And yes to 100 days of stitching!

  8. We eat mostly.vegetarian here. My daughter and her family eat vegan and they inspired us to give it a try. I feel much better eating toward a more plant-based diet. My husband orders meat when we order take out. I read somewhere that eating more plant-based doesn’t have to be all or nothing. I agree. It’s a reasonable way to try more vegetarian meals.

  9. We made a journey to Costco (gah) last week… it was stressful. And while I could easily do a vegetarian diet, dairy is crucial to my daily living! 🙂

  10. I love TGIF💕. Vegan and even vegetarian would be a challenge for me. I am focusing on healthy, some meatless days, more fruits and veggies, and lots of water. Good luck on your vegan challenge.
