an august moon and clouds …

After what felt like years of unprecedented heat last week, August arrived with cooler air, lower humidity and therefore temperature and the arrival of a “super moon” gracing our nightly skies. Sadly, for moi and most of us who live in the US, folk on the west coast, especially in Eugene OR have the best opportunity of viewing the delightful event.

I did a quick google search and found a link to space.com with this appealing headline: “Watch the supermoon of August 2023 rise today with free telescope livestream (video)”. Hey, hey I thought, how cool is that and, I clicked! Only to be greeted with “Update 3:30 p.m. ET: “The virtual Telescope Project’s livestream of the Full Sturgeon Moon was cancelled due to clouds.”

I share with you some pics of the clouds I took on my walk yesterday. They are a study and make for a good study, too!

I took a quick look out the window and yep! There are clouds moving in. I take a lot of photos of clouds and have recommitted to practicing watercolor painting them. And since I am also mesmerized by clouds, I guess I won’t be too crestfallen … but still!

Fortunately, we have one more opportunity to see a super-moon, the Full Blue Moon, which rises August 30th. Keeping my fingers crossed!

It’s also “Crepe Myrtle Season!” The flowering trees just burst open last week . My neighbors have quite a tree in their yard and as I fix my tea every morning, I glance out the window and am momentarily mesmerized by its beauty. If the weather’s nice, I’ll step out on the deck to get a better view… as with the photo, below. Today, I happened on a link with instructions on how to remove wires from photos. I haven’t tried -yet- but intend to do so, soon! There’s hope…

Wishing all a great month. Who knows what Mother Nature has in store !!!

Cheers~

thinking: how lovely the day has been – weather and time/task wise. we’re having a brief respite from the cold that greeted us at week’s beginning, tho’ that’s to be short-lived, perhaps accompanied by snow Sun and Mon. In these parts, time will tell… if you look closely, you can see the beginnings of January’s full Wolf Moon, to appear Monday evening…

gratitude: yesterday morning I went “grocery shopping” at 8 am; hadn’t been at that time since the pandemic began in 2020. t’was a good time of day, limited shoppers, traffic and for the most part, shelves were stocked. for the drive home, I treated myself to a decaf hot latte – pretzel spice. didn’t much like; I’ll choose a different flavor next time…

inspired: this “cozy quilt embroidery sampler” strikes my fancy. it’s a stitch-along designed and created by Celeste Johnson of Lemon Made Shop. Tho’ the quilt along is already underway this month, I just discovered it today. Looking over the supply list, I have scissors, needles, a needle minder, probably an embroidery hoop and possibly muslin or Kona cotton. No doubt my mother had some of the supplies; I imagine they are still here…if not, I’ll get (any excuse to go shopping, even if it’s only virtual). I am adding to my 2022 to be stitched list that I am thinking will be my focus for the 2022 #the100dayproject that starts February 13…

fun: for nearly two years, I’ve joined Daily Pages, created by rukristin of the awesome ladies project; the photo is the page I made today. the photo of the salad is what inspired me…especially the statement on the salad. and yes, I am thinking seriously about a vegan diet…moving into it slowly.

Have a good weekend.

Cheers~

practicing gratitude |

Sunday: Norman’s birthday. Now, he’s a young 87 years old! We had a quiet celebration with his son … I managed to capture the Oct/Nov full moon …

Monday: New carpet for basement & first floor steps… I love the look, the smell …

Tuesday/Today/Election Day: We voted by mail several weeks ago – the District mailed ballots to all registered voters. .. and here we are on election day! Finally! I guess … I hope.

About mid-day, I took a long walk through our neighborhood park – almost deserted. Probably because the weather’s turned a tad bit chilly. The sun on the changing, colorful leaves left my heart and me warm… and for that, I am always grateful.

Time to hit publish, watch the setting sun, prepare dinner … and wait.

Cheers~
