Week #21 – Happiness|

IMG_7319

Week #21 started with a bang:
Monday, I went downtown to The National Mall – there were people all ages from all over the world – lots of school trips. The weather was lovely, a perfect Spring day!  I specifically went to meet Juliann, F2F, who was visiting. We’ve been Zoom and FT and ALP friends for several years; this was our first Face-to-Face meetup, ever. T’was a delightful day, spent mostly at the African American Museum of Art and then a bite to eat afterwards …  Visit her blog to see a photo of the two of us …
Tuesday, in comparison, quiet time for me.   Wednesday, I was in seventh heaven: The London Writers’ Salon sponsored a special interview/chat with Maggie O’Farrell– author of many books, her two most recent: Hamnet and Portrait of A Marriage.
Along with all the others in the audience, I was captivated, hang- ing onto her every word. After the session, I promptly checked my two local library systems for her memoir : I Am, I Am, I Am. As luck would have it, both dc public and pgcmls (Prince George’s County, MD) library systems had copies available – one of which I now have in my reading stack, started Thursday night after …

Thursday, I met two friends for breakfast and a long overdue gathering. We were           so busy catching up, eating, etc, we forgot to grab a picture to memorialize the                     event. But, that’s OK; our hearts are warmed and the memory of our gathering,                   indelibly impressed on our minds…

Friday, I waited all day for a service call re: my washing machine. It walks.                      The service tech arrived at 5:15 pm. No service performed!Suffice it to say, I was                  not a happy camper! Second service call scheduled for Wednesday.

Friday’s fiasco not withstanding, in the overall scheme of things, I am more                           happier – as Gretchen and sister, Liz share on their twice a month Saturday  podcast.         What’s making you more happier these days?  Have a great holiday!

Cheers~

Apologies for the disatrous formatting – last three paragraphs. Word Press strikes again and frankly, I’m too irritated to bother.

~a friend is a present you give yourself~

Is unwrapping the same as unraveling? Of course not, silly. Today, Pat, my longtime friend of 33 years and I met for a long overdue lunch and reconnection. We’d not seen one another for nearly three months! We had a lot of catching up to do…and we did. We also celebrated my birthday (Nov); the lovely journal – despite the light’s glare – a gift from Pat, is made by an artist who lives in Oregon. After lunch, we stopped at a delightful store that sells all sorts of art supplies… I needed to replenish ink for my LAMY pen. And we both had our creative juices stirred a bit by some gorgeous iridescent watercolor paints; for sure, we’re coming back in 2020, just around the corner!

After two days of rain, today was sunny, lovely and cold! Perfect for spending quality friend time. Tho’ I have not included any knitting or other fun craft update in this post nor nary a word about this past week’s reads, I encourage you to join Kat and others for Unraveled Wednesday… lotsa good books and fun knitting projects are shared there!

Cheers~

~Atlantic Ocean view from restaurant,  4:20 pm, 15 Nov 2019 ~

I had an absolutely delightful weekend celebrating my Fri, November 15 birthday with friends: some from far away and long ago; others, right here in the area:

  • Thursday, friends Kathy and Laura (both former work colleagues. Laura lives in FL; Kathy, DE. Laura was here Wednesday for an end-of-training session celebration in Columbia MD. I picked her up Thursday morning} and I drove to Bethany Beach , DE for a retreat in the off-season!

  • Friday, we walked the beach; collected shells and pictures of the ocean, sky, waves; ate; laughed; chatted; journaled; shared books and ideas and caught up with one another.  Friday was also Journal Club  and we joined in, sitting at the same table!  Afterwards we went to a fun restaurant for an early dinner, more laughing, sharing, reminiscing,… wash, rinse, repeat…
  • Saturday, we awoke to a roiling ocean. Sadly, our gathering was ending and we had to resume normal lives. After depositing Kathy at home, I dropped Laura off at the airport, drove home arriving  about 8 pm. Exhilarated and tired. Ready for my own bed…
  • Sunday, monthly Friendstitch gathering. More birthday celebration: good friends, good  food (pizza; champagne; salads; cookies and lemon tart cake) and fun… and on
  • Monday, she rested!

I am so grateful to my friends for this wonderful celebration and forever memories.

11 am

waiting for my friend Kathy who is driving in from Delaware…

listening to a variety of conversations in the background, accompanied by the PA system…

staring back at me: rows and rows of book stacks, filled with every subject imaginable…

remembering the many, many times, over years, that Kathy and I met here:

  • planning training that we provided new library staff workers in both DE and MD public libraries…
  • catching up and sharing stories of our own lives, our families, doings, comings, goings…

debating if I want a cuppa coffee, especially since I didn’t bring any tea bags…

pausing, thinking, about what I want to do next as I wait….

deciding coffee it is while I wait…

looking up and seeing her! She’s here!

6 pm

I’m home. We had a wonderful time and sadly, as with all good things, the time came for us to bid adieu. We’ll meet again in the next six months. Can’t be too soon. And of course, before I left, I had to browse a bit and buy a few books…or so.

Joining Kat and others for another Unraveled Wednesday, here.

Cheers~
