Spring! Seems as tho’ it took forever in coming … and now it’s here! (Even if officially it doesn’t arrive until 5:58 pm EST.) The past few days on my walks, buoyed by warmer Spring-like temperatures, I’ve witnessed buds on the trees and even the Tulip tree at the end of the block is blossoming. Yesterday, I saw my first hint of forsythia, finally. Tonight I hope the clouds won’t obscure my chance to see the last full Supermoon of 2019.
Over the weekend, on my walks, I started and finished, Dani Shapiro’s Inheritance (the audio version). What would you do, think; how would you feel if you found out, via a DNA test, that your father was not your biological father? That you were conceived via a sperm donor program? And that when you do learn these facts, you can’t ask your parents because both are deceased? This is Dani’s story. Gripping! Provocative!
Dani, an accomplished writer and memoirist and writing instructor, narrates the audio version – which makes her story even more poignant. I encourage you to listen and/or read …and visit her website, after you’ve started the book. Doing so will make her story even more dynamic…
I suspect – actually I know – that listening to Inheritance reignited my idea:
- write/tell my story – tho’ nowhere near as dramatic as Dani’s;
- however/whatever form that takes.
So, Monday afternoon, I went to B&N for more books on, you guessed, writing. For months I’ve been promising myself to read Stephen King’s On Writing…always on any list. Quiet as it’s kept, I’ve not read one of his books – not a genre I read. Be that as it may, On Writing is always on anyone’s list, so now, it’s in my personal library.
Switching gears, the days til the quilt show – May 3-5 – continue to countdown and I’ve finished – or nearly – 3 of the 4 quilts for the exhibit. Next up: the binding on the big quilt and a few other odds/ends…Lovin’ that I’m on schedule if not ahead!
And so, it’s time for me to get a move on with the day. Joinin’ Kat and friends here.

I finished to amazing books this week – one I shared on my blog, one I just finished this afternoon! Both grabbed me from the first words and I could simply not put them down!
As far as the knitting goes – there has been some unraveling today – sleeves in cotton are more than a bit of a challenge.

I’ve read almost everything Dani Shapiro has written. Last week I downloaded the Audible version of Inheritance and am looking forward to listening to it. I have several books ahead of it, and I think three more books on “hold” at the library have come in. (Maybe I need a reading retreat!) I read Stephen King’s On Writing years ago, and have never forgotten some of his advice. It would be good to reread it. As for your beautiful photo at the top of this post. We had 50° today, but SNOW is forecast before the week is out. I know it won’t last, but really I’d love to see some green again. I went to the garden center for some new pots for my violets, and came home with three beautiful primroses—one for my craft room, one for the kitchen, and one for the living room!

I’ve a couple other titles of hers in my writing/memoir pile…first time I’d listened. A reading retreat sounds really neat! Monsoon rain here today – perfect for reading but I’ve been decluttering papers and book shelves…

The violas are gorgeous.
I needed a little “lightness” in my week, so I am reading My Nest Isn’t Empty by Lisa Scottoline. It is laugh out loud funny in parts.

(I am so envious of your spring, Honoré. I know ours is coming, but it’s so much slower than yours!) I LOVED Dani’s book. I’m planning to suggest it for my book group at our book selection meeting in April. There’s so much discussable material in there! As for Stephen King . . . I am a “secret” fan. I started reading his books when I was in high school, and just . . . kept on reading. His books tend not be “my genre” AT ALL, but he is an incredible storyteller! If you ever want to try one of his books, I’d suggest 11/22/63. It’s not “horror” — just a really good story! 🙂

Well, today – 3.21 – we’re having a monsoon…great for decluttering and organizing papers, etc….and reading! I will definitely try your recommendation – thanx! I had my fill of horror with the Exorcist when it first came out, decades ago! That didi it for me!

Echoing Kym’s envy of your spring! My croci and daffs are buried under a foot of snow. The only sign of spring here, besides the finally above-freezing temps, is the occasional bare patch of gravel on the road to our house. I shall enjoy your spring via photos!

Echoing Kym’s recommendation of 11/23/63 – it’s the only one of King’s books I’ve read … and I LOVED it! Also – loving the sweet purple and yellow faces on those pansies. I picked up Inheritance on Kindle a few weeks back and just as soon as my library queue gets under control I look forward to diving in. (can you believe it’s almost April?!)

I may have to give Inheritance a try. I have read excerpts of Shapiro’s work on some newsletter/blog. I am always looking for new books on writing. Once upon a long time ago, I had King’s book home from the library. I might have to revisit it as I can’t remember a darn thing about it. Your quilting schedule sounds ambitious. Three cheers for being ahead of the stitching.

Do try it! Her narration is excellent and it is a “quick” read/listen as audiobooks go. My ‘quilting’ schedule took a slight backseat y’day…I got involved in sorting papers ~ a never ending chore! Enjoy your weekend. Cheers~

Very cheering to see how far your daffodils are out, Honoré, though reading the comments, it sounds as if you’ve had a rain storm too … Hoping those burgeoning yellow heads survived without too much damage. Wishing you every success with your own memoir! As always, I am grateful for your thoughtful book recommendations. Am gently puttering my own and very slow way through Mary Karr’s “The Art of Memoir”.

The flowers are surviving considering the see-saw weather days. I have Mary Karr’s book in my TBR stack…started once and didn’t get too far…may try again. Will look forward to your thoughts.
