~flowers on my walk~

“…the rain in Spain…” and so we are in Day 2 of spring rain and as my late husband always reminded when one – I – began to complain : “…it’s for the earth…” INDEED! Everything’s a brilliant “spring green” and luscious- looking, despite the ever-present grey sky. Hopefully, no doubt, the rain will subside a bit later this afternoon -after 3 PM – when I go for my walk/trek to and through the park.

Lately my walks have been coinciding with the elementary school’s – two blocks down the street – end of day. The same school my youngest grand niece, Kayla, attended, starting at age 4. She was so excited to be going to school and practically walked on air. She is now 25 years old and on Friday, graduates from University of Maryland’s Global College receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in ???

I have begun two new ~ dare I so dub?~ “art practices”. One is “embroidery” and the other, the painting art of “pointillism”. Both fit very well with my 2025 word: JOURNAL …for, of course, I can/do “date my work” ~ an aside: most people who work/ed in the public library (learn to) “date” stuff they write, make, take notes on, etc…a habit for sure!

Today, this AM, since I was in Writers’ Hour, I decided I’d “pen my blog post draft” as I was already on my iPad. So, I did. I wasn’t prepared for the fact that Word Press has “upped” the program and so I am also learning the program’s new features, etc. Give me pen and paper! Yes I know – only too well – there are disadvantages but I’ve been very comfortable using the medium for easily 80 of my 82 years… And as attributed to Michelangelo: “I am still learning!” Indeed I am!

Writers’ Hour has ended. On Wednesday’s we’re invited to join a “mingle” ~ 4-5 people are gathered in a small group and spend about 15 minutes sharing, “getting to know” one another. Always interesting, enlightening and encouraging .

10:41 AM Breakfast consumed and last load of laundry in the dryer. Clean up my breakfast dishes and schlepp my journaling tools back upstairs to my craft room…

The rain has stopped ~ at least for the time being…

Have a great day, whenever you read this!

Cheers~

8 am/cloudy/70 degrees, I wrote and continued:  My tea’s cooling, if not cooled, cold. I’ve returned to the classic (7 x 9) Happy Planner dot grid  paper for journaling. At least for today – it’s Simply A Moment time. Many years have elapsed since I first began documenting a specific several moments on the 15th of each month. I chose the 15th because the date is generally the middle – or close to  – of the month and also happens to be my birthday numeral.  I also use the convention of capturing the moment based on the date + time, e.g., this month, the moment I captured (in pen on paper) was 8 – 8:15 am on Sunday August 15 – 8/15. It could have easily been 8:15 pm for I think I’d most likely be awake at that time.  But a bunch of  Zzzzs does not make for very interesting copy.  And so the countdown  begins – 3 min to go til …

8:15 am  Two sips of my now cooled tea. Sunday Baroque in my ears: Bach’s “Two Choruses'” is  playing …so lovely. The sky is laced with grey colouds. Autumn – meterological only 16 days away – 1 September.  I saw an artist on Instagram  (Lorene Edwards Forkner – #gardenercook )  who selects a daily color palette based on a plant: it’s leaf or flowers. She has a book coming out Spring 2022;  I plan to purchase but in the meantime, I’ll follow her on IG. Today’s colors: shades of grey (and not 50!). Guess it could be green with a hint of brown as the season’s changing.  Looking out the window, I see the leaves on this tree are not only turning brown but that many have fallen and there are more gaps, spaces, views of the grey sky showing through.  My tea needs replacing –  it’s cooled and my cup’s almost empty…

And thus was the beginning of my Sunday which later included an afternoon trip to Barnes & Noble, complete with my mask! There were a lot of people out at the shopping mall – nearly all were masked and moving and most retail establishments and eateries required masks. Worked for me!

Cheers~

unraveled wednesday|a snowy day…

IMG_7271

From my journal, 7:42 am: Snowfalls quietly, gently – all around: silence, punctuated by the normal, routine sounds: scratch of my pen gliding across my journal page; a jet plane taking off; an occasional clang of the radiator ~ all are exaggerated, louder, yet quietly so. “Shhh…I’m reading,” my coffee mug, tho’ empty, proclaims. The scent of candle wafts through the air, filling my nostrils and soul. In my left hand, I hold my tea mug – it’s warmth, too, soothes and comforts. My Valentine roses are exceptionally bright, still bringing joy, seven days later and counting…

Currently, 12:15 pm: Snow continues to fall; flakes are the kind that make you want to stick out your tongue and catch. When I was a child, I always imagined spending these kind of “snow days” at some out-of-the-way ski lodge, wrapped in a warm quilt, sitting in front of a roaring fire, reading a book too good to put down. Today is one of those days minus the ski lodge and roaring fire…and tho’ I’ve been reading, more of my energy has been spent looking, writing, thinking, reflecting…interrupted briefly to wash a load of  dish cloths/towels and chat with Norman over breakfast; and catch up with the news, stock market, the snowfall, etc.

He’s now situated in front of his computer and I, mine – tho’ we’re on separate floors. As I type these words, I hear the sound of ice against the window. Early this afternoon, the snow is to turn to mixed snow and sleet; I think, as predicted, it’s beginning to happen.

12:30 pm: Yep, I think the snow has ended…next up “icy rain! ”

Joining Kat and friends for their unraveled wednesday, too.

Cheers~
