Last month I wrote I was going to establish a new habit: daily art journaling. My plan – simple:
- decide/schedule time between 6 A.M. and 6 PM;
- keep it visible, track and
- share!
I did not achieve that goal: my daily schedule was/is revised a bit. The time I thought I’d devote to creating this new habit was preempted. – which is OK and understandable in that I’d not figured in a factor over which I have no control. So, it’s back to the drawing board … and a different approach.
The key to success, in addition to including the activity on my daily agenda, lies in [my] tying the new habit to an existing one – a technique called habit stacking. So, the revised plan is to:
- tie the habit to my M-F 12 Noon Daily Pages activity – which I really enjoy;
- have an idea of the day’s focus and supplies at the ready;
- keep it simple – therefore doable;
- share on this blog and/or Instagram.
Clearly, not everyday will result in achieving the goal as outlined but I’m banking on having more rather than less success at October’s end. Watch this space.

During these next two weeks, Sept 7-18 , weekdays, I am joining Michele GD’s Just Five Things workshop.
For approximately the past 10-11 hours on this, Labor Day, I have been laboring in the task of reviewing, sorting and sifting, notes I’ve written on sundry pieces of papers, trying to get my written life and lists organized … it would probably be easier/easiest if I just threw everything away… but I’m convinced there are gems among these scribbles as well as a long list of check marks = accomplishments! My mom always encouraged us to toot our own horns! And that’s what I decided to do – find those to do things I’ve indeed either done or decided I wasn’t going to do! So I can toot my own horn!
These are the top five things on my list, thus far:

monday morphs into tuesday… I had the best intentions, plans and ideas yesterday to post … and somehow for some reason, some way, the day got away from me … as it did over the weekend. Perhaps because I was on Zoom, more than off, it seems – I hasten to add, not a complaint, just a fact. I am grateful for Zoom and other similar technologies; not only are we able to keep in touch with family, we’re also enabled to:
saturday -the 15th- afternoon, I went to Barnes & Noble and managed to spend more than enough on books to keep me company for a bit…more on them tomorrow. t’ws my first visit to a bookstore since February! I also stopped at a local office supply – filled with back to school supplies. In normal times, the inventory would be pretty much decimated. I bought the little guys each their own composition notebook, designed specifically for their ages: 6 and 2 3/4. I know that through the balance of 2020, Chris (6 years) will be doing first grade virtually and Elias, of course, will want to do everything his big bro’ (idol) does. I felt a tinge of sadness as I looked at all the school supplies – memories of back-to-school from my childhood, my nieces, flooded over and floored me as the reality of these times stopped me cold. [deep sigh].
yesterday it rained off -n-on and then of course stormed – just as Norman was putting the trash out for tuesday’s collection. why not? fortunately, tv reception wasn’t affected so we were able to watch the Democratic National Convention.
today was nearly perfect – low 80s ! Unheard of in the middle of August in these parts. I do not complain! Cheers~
PS. A reminder: next Tuesday, August 25 is the monthly one little word linkup on this blog!
