9c0274dd-4e07-4380-a472-a99a1f6cb1d4…are snowbound! Doubting Thomasina, aka Honoré, is sitting at the table, enjoying the fruits of Mother Nature’s 30 + hours of soft and steady snowfall. The snowflakes were the type that made you want to stick your tongue out and catch a few…and they also reminded me of making snow ice cream; yummy!

Sunday morning, about 9:30 am, an unscientific count by moi: eyeballing and using a ruler to approximate the ledge of snow on the deck bannister gave me a measurement of 3.5 and growing inches…I’m afraid I’ll be housebound today as I don’t think I can get out of the garage until the snow plow and/or warmer temps come through…

The snow interlude has been very helpful to my Döstädning : Master Bedroom closet cleared! Sewing Studio tackled and completed!  A lot – not that which I’m discarding or donating – of what I removed from the closet made its way across the hall and that  72 square feet was already filled to the gills. Garage here we come – just as soon as I can get out of the house. To be continued…

~today’s morning sunrise~

We totaled about 9 – 11 inches of snow! Any snow in your neck of the woods? Here’s to a good week.

Cheers~

PS. The first two photos were taken Saturday! I couldn’t get out on the deck this morning!

weekend prep …

This weekend, we’re supposedly  in for our first snow of  the season…so, just to be on the safe side, we went shopping for ice melt and a few food  items to tide us over. I suspect, based on previous experiences, if the snow does come, it’ll be short-lived…but then again, I could be very wrong! Only time will tell.

If it does snow, I  have plenty on my agenda to keep me company. Today, I tackled the clothes’ closet – finally! I feel so much better that I did…now, I need to finish clearing stuff off the bed…because it just might be needed for sleeping .

The sun is setting, the moon is shining and homeward bound rush hour traffic is on the move. Have a great weekend!

Tues 8 Jan – 1:50 pm:

My intention this day included döstädning my office area – this photo of  my desk shows why; you think? Then, I planned to write about my 2019 Word … suffice it to say that time took its own speed and before I knew it, I was fresh out of day and energy. Oh well, I sighed, hopefully tomorrow…

Wed 9 Jan – 7: 31 am :

I wrote: “Plowed through the upstairs y’day, creating more areas of stuff to move out…guess it’s called progress. Never wrote a bloomin’ word on the blog – writers (ahem) need to show up everyday at the same time! So again, when ? I stopped to look up/out the window and realized sunrise was on! Morning was all aglow! Gotta leave home, 11-ish – sky is cloudless, a pink, purple blue. Sunlight twinkles on the apartment windows. Serene; lovely; peaceful …

I had a noon dental appointment, I ran a few errands and stopped at Panera on my way home to get my “free bagel.” I get one everyday this month – so far, I’ve only claimed two… Home, I had lunch & dinner: soup, salad and the bagel. I returned to my craft room for another round of döstädning . About 6 pm, I laid down to rest – next thing I knew, t’was 10 pm; no sense in getting up, I thought and slept the night away. Guess I was tired..

Thurs 10 Jan – 6:30 am

Bright eyed, bushy tailed and wide awake, ready to enjoy MSQT. Windy today – all day! A good day to resume döstädning…I made a list of too many things to accomplish on this day. Top item: Blog! As I was thinking about today’s post, I zeroed in on catching up and using today and the past two day’s as content! Brilliant I thought!  And then I checked my messages and found this great picture of the little boys

photo0 (1)

They’re having a great time! And when Chris is home, he’s seldom without Mickey in one hand and playing with Elias!

Now, back to the agenda item at hand: döstädning. Joining Carole and others for this week’s 3 on Thursday!

Cheers~

are spectacular sunrises and new kimono sweaters:

new kimono sweaters

The story behind the kimono: shortly before Christmas, my friend Diane sent me a text inviting me to look at the above kimono on HSN…she thought I’d like it, especially since it came in my favorite color…and she’d bought one for herself – in red (her fave color, I do believe). I thought, why not and told her to go ahead and order. They came; we both liked and decided to wear to quilt meeting today…

I thought is was fun that Mother Nature also decided to display reds and yellows for today’s sunrise…t’was very dramatic and a delight to watch. Tomorrow, Tuesday 8 January, the temperature’s set to rise to 60 degrees…and come Wednesday, drop precipitously, rain and perhaps even snow by week’s end. Guess that’s January.

Cheers~

Thinking:  I’m glad that the weekend is here, I’m tired and it’s only the 4th day of the year/month! I spent yesterday having a lovely IKEA breakfast – all of $3 including coffee (unlimited if purchased before  10 am ) – joined by friend Diane. After eating and catching up, we shopped… I bought some household items I probably didn’t need and stuffed husky dogs for the little boys.  Chris took to his tout de suite; Elias…not so sure… After breakfast, I had a medical appointment with a new ENT doctor. That always takes more time, filling out papers, etc…after, I drove to pick up my sister. By the time I got home, it was about 5:30 pm; I sat down to watch the news and the House proceedings…and found myself glued to the TV for most of the evening. Long story short, I never made it to my computer to post … “first thing tomorrow,” I told myself.

Grateful: Today dawned with great promise. I arose at my usual early hour, 5:30-ish and settled in for an extended MSQT, especially since yesterday’s was somewhat abbreviated (for a good reason). My plan for today included

  • writing an early morning post;
  • taking the tree down and putting away the last remnants of holiday décor;
  • gathering items from the basement and the garage targeted for donation or discard to put in my car;
  • doing a couple loads of laundry.

Inspired: During MSQTI spent a fair amount of time looking at quotes and definitions for my 2019 word…I’d not settled on one. I’ve been contemplating continuing my 2018 word: mindful/mindfulness using it as an umbrella and focusing on several subsidiary words per quarter, sort of like the spokes of an umbrella. After breakfast – cereal and yogurt – I decided to take the tree down and put away the other holiday decorations. Just as I was finishing with the tree, about 11:30 am, my sister arrived. Several hours later, getting ready to take her home (she’d borrowed my car Thurs eve), I couldn’t find my house keys…YET AGAIN! After spending another 20 minutes looking for them, in the house, I gave up. Blame it on the Time Thieves, I told myself…and her. We left; I dropped her off and returned home. About 3:45pm, I put a last load of laundry in the dryer, fixed a snack and for some reason, put my hand in my back left jeans’ pocket*. Dah Dah Dum!

Fun: Guess what I found? I’m almost ashamed to admit: Yep! My keys! So, that settles it: I’ve been toying with the word habit for a while and yes, I am choosing it to be the first spoke of my umbrella. I am too thru with spending time looking for keys. I’ve decided that there are only two places in this house where my keys will reside. .. certainly not my back jeans’ pocket! * And yes, I sat on my keys and no, I never felt them!

Keeping my fingers crossed, practicing mindfulness habits and wishing all a lovely weekend!

Cheers~

collecting december 2018 …

IMG_6611

It seemed to me that we had an inordinate amount of rain-filled days in December, which may explain why 1/3rd of the photos are nature and sky themed…rain, rain but no snow! Despite, there was lots of holiday decorating and merry making spread throughout, including Christmas Day. This year, my sister’s oldest grandson joined us (#26). The photo before –  #25, tho’ not so clear –  is a group pic of my nieces and nephews…I guess I was taking the picture and not sure what happened to my sister… Throughout, there are a few quilts  – two made by fiends in my quilting group; I close out the month with two photos of the hanging of the Flower Garden.

2018 is a wrap and 2019 is off to a good and modest start!

Cheers~

are gloomy … yet this Morning Solitude and Quiet Time (MSQT), and days to come, is brightened by a Flower Garden quilt hanging in the Great Room! Yesterday, friends Ed and Margaret hung the quilt. Today, t’is a delight to sit, sip (tea) and enjoy the colorful blooms of the quilt I made and completed (after 4 years!) January 2017!

We are looking forward to watching the ball drop at midnight in NYC and toasting the New Year! Big things are on the horizon!

Wishing all the very best in 2019! Back again Wednesday 2 January 2019.

Cheers~

Thinking about:  my to-do list items between now and New Year’s Day; I’m hosting Recent Reads and we’re also celebrating my friend’s New Year’s Day birthday. I need to decide on the menu, though I’ve a pretty good idea of what I’m serving…

Grateful for: a quiet and productive day at home!  The rain came, is still with us as I prepare this post. Neither the crow nor I decided to brave the rain – I opted not to join my friends for the quilt shop outing; there will be another time…

Inspired by: the progress I’m making in my studio purging/organizing and 2019 planning:

  • surfaces are clearer;
  • the picture of what is where is coming into focus;
  • I am feeling settled, more comfortable with what I think will be my 2019 word/s …

Fun: My friend AJ sent the adorable pillow… kinda looks like someone’s dog. I wonder who that someone might be – hmmm.

Enjoy this last weekend of 2018. I’ll return the 31st.

Cheers~

1 -As I’ve engaged in  döstädning today, taking a bit of a time out for a walk to enjoy the sun and tad warmer temps, I’ve listened to The Library Book, narrated by the author. As a former public librarian, there have been many passages that I find easily relatable: I wonder if the American public library culture is something we (library folk) created or if it’s the library customer… I am on chapter 7 – there are 33! Some chapters are as short as 7 – 10 min; others as long as 40+ minutes…I have about 9 hours left…but I may skip a few…or at least change the speed.

2 – I wish my mother were alive to hear/read the book : She was the manager of a branch library that was destroyed by a fire; it occurred the night she’d just returned from annual leave and a vacation to Oregon (she lived in Ohio). I’m sure the book would be very poignant and relatable.

3 – Tomorrow the weather forecast calls for rain, rain, rain! I hope not because our Thursday stitching group has plans to go to a quilt shop in the western end of the state of MD. According to Siri, the  shop is about 55 miles away …or about 32 miles as the crow flies. And yes, that’s exactly how Siri said it!

Think it’s time now for me to wrap up döstädning and this post.

Cheers~
