(Dogwood @ Franciscan Monastery, 4. 24.19)

Spring 2019 has been exceptionally lovely, albeit a tad cool, but colorful and delightful, nevertheless. My April was filled with lots of lovely time spent outdoors…

Habits are interesting: hard to both make and break. Habits challenge and reward. I am the sum total of my habits :

  • I am creating and/or refining habits, activities that contribute to a healthier and  happpier ME – happier is not to say that I am unhappy ’cause I definitely am not;
  • I am creating a new daily groove…spending my time and energy engaged in activities and habits that spark joy, fill me up, and move me closer to reaching my  creative goals;
  • I am creating habits that contribute to a happier/better life for me, family, friends, and those who I encounter on any given day.

I am ready to continue my journey. But now,  @ 2:30 pm, I’m going to take a lovely walk outside on this 81°F day!

…are a quiet and restful and early start to a busy week:

  • Yesterday, my monthly Friendstitching gathering. We had a delicious meal of grilled salmon, homemade cheese chive biscuits, salad and for afters : coconut cake. In the background, that little white blur is Coconut, a pup… and I am finally adding a new color to my log cabin!

  • The highlight of the day: we got to meet Margaret and Ed’s newest addition to the family: Wilkie, a Havenese rescue pup. A bit shy in a new environment but so adorable…

  • Saturday, the weather was lovely; my walk through the neighborhood was filled with the colorful glory of spring: the trees and flowers are in full bloom as is allergy season. I totally plumb forgot I was planning to listen to Met Opera’s Gotterdamerung … durn it! It will probably be another 5+ years before it’s broadcast “live” again…

  • Friday, fully intended to post and the day got away… I looked up at the clock and realized it was almost time for PM news.

And now, it’s the end of the month – just days before we open the doors Thurs for the quilt show. Off to attend the last committee meeting and the beginning of five trips this week.

Have a great Monday!

Cheers~

I awoke this morning to the sight of a magnificent sunrise, a gentle pink glow in the sky, on rooftops…and quickly gathered my iPhone and donned my robe so that I could step out on the deck and snap a photo or two, bask in the gentle glow. Mornings, mine, are always off to a slow, gentle start, regardless of “when “ I must leave the house …I sip my tea, read, write, sometimes draw/sketch, remember, plan, contemplate, let the morning/day unfold gently…

On this day, next week, we will be in the throes of setting up the quilt show – the doors will open at 10 am, promptly on Thursday…to a crowd of quilters rushing into buy our castoffs: tools; fabrics; patterns; novelty items; etc...”one quilter’s trash another quilter’s treasure…” Three of my four quilts are ready; I finish stitching the binding on the fourth, today!

I have any number of books – new/old; audio/print – in various stages; I’m rather drifting in/out of them. In my ongoing dostadning efforts, I ran across these three titles and decided I might revisit them over the next few days.

The weather forecast for today: sunshine and lovely temps. I plan/hope to take a walk to the Franciscan Monastery early afternoon to view the grounds. I’ve not been at all this season. Who cares about spring allergies?

Joining Kat and others for Unraveled Wednesday here!

weekending and today

The weekend started with a quiet bang. Saturday was lovely ~ an invitation to walk to Zeke’s, sit outside and enjoy a new-to-me latté  (made with lavender spice and honey). After one sip, a gust of wind, caused my drink to spill the minute I sat it down! The barrista was kind enough to make me another and I switched to a caramel latté  – I found the first drink a tad too sweet.

Easter Sunday we joined friends for a delightful, delicious potluck dinner. The evening sunset was spectacular. I am so delighted that today’s smart phone technology makes taking such dramatic  photos as easy as can be!

Today beckoned me outside once again:  Come. Take a long leisurely walk to the park. I enjoyed not only the weather and sight of the sky, folk reading, kids playing, flowers, azaleas and trees blooming, and also the sidewalk art, always a delight to see.

Lovely memories of a lovely weekend. Ah! Spring!

tgif | 4.19.19…

thinking: I love that every month in this year has a ” x. 19.19″ date…don’t ask me why, it’s just one of many small quirky things that make me smile…or is it the product of an idle mind?

gardening: Jason, the young man who tends the yard, was here yesterday… everything looks a sight better for sure. Chris (my niece) wants to garden. Since she lives in an apartment building, she asked if she could use my back yard as her learning field and also let her pup Hazel, romp. I didn’t hesitate to say YES!

inspiring : I so enjoyed Kym’s sharing of Mary Oliver’s Wild Geese; as I watched the video this morning, I recalled I’d captured a photo yesterday of a lone goose, leisurely ambling on a lawn, eating… (the photo was not taken in my yard )

fun: a bit of Haiku for you, written just this morning as I was fixing tea:

I look out and see

three birds flit by the window

“catch me if you can!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Cheers~

Still recovering from Sunday’s 12K walkathon…adding yesterday, another 8K+. I normally average circa 5K on a daily basis, weather and other factors permitting. Today’s incentive: spend several [more] hours in my craft room, purging and reorganizing – bringing outer order and inner calm to my creative memory keeping environment as well as my mind.

Calmed and ready for a break – a treat – I journeyed to my favorite (and only) local coffee shop within walking distance. On the way there and back, I listened to the latest edition of What Should I Read Next ? ~ Modern Mrs Darcy podcast, episode 180. This week’s featured guest, Liberty Hardy, host of BookRiot’s All the Books podcast, read 600 books last year! Reading is her full time j-o-b! And then some! Can you imagine? I encourage you to listen to the podcast -even if you’re not a podcast listener. It was fun …and I’ve added Liberty’s fave author: Elizabeth McCracken’s Giant House: A Romance to my TBR list – I don’t usually read fiction in this genre but this one sounds like fun so I thought I might give it a try…any one read it already?

The Quilt Show is two weeks away, May 2-4, and I’ve just a few loose ends to tie up…but for all intent and purpose, I. am.ready.

Joining Kat and friends for another UW. What’s unraveling – or not – in your life these days?

Cheers~

…are days of rest

It’s been a quiet, delightfully so, morning and so far, afternoon! today, I did not have any.place.to.be other than to sit here at the table, all morning long, taking it easy, easy, easy!

Yesterday, I clocked more than 12K steps: the Selfie Queen – niece Chris – and I went to the annual White House Garden Spring Tour…we were among the hundreds. We enjoyed the tour and as Chris said: the flowers know no party. Despite the day’s being overcast, the Smithsonian Mall and museums were busy, busy.

From the gardens, we walked to the National Gallery of Art’s Sculpture Garden and Restaurant – where we ate lunch and rested…and then, Chris called Uber to take each of us home.

I was wiped out by the time I arrived home – as I pen this post, am still. But that’s been quite OK ’cause I have no place to go today or anything due!

~this tree this morning @ 7:04 am~

Today I’ve been sitting here at the table, since early this morning, watching Mother Nature blow the clouds in and out, the sun come and go.

1:20 pm EDST

@ IKEA. Just finished lunch: salmon. salad with blackberries, walnuts, blue cheese and ranch dressing . yummy. best coffee, ever. appt this morning: new doctor, about a year ago. he’s funny and so easy to talk to…relaxed, attentive, relatable… all’s good…encouraging, always …spring is really here…today: blue sky dotted with puffy white clouds, lots of sunshine. 67 degrees…near day’s high…happy flowers…happy birds…happy people…finishing Austin Kleon’s first book: steal like an artist: 10 things nobody told you about being creative… format & style just like newest … both are quick reads, filled with lots of pithy advice and ideas…especially good tips for forming/strengthening habits….power hour yesterday … roared through household chores…felt good to have them off the menu…Outer Order indeed Inspires Inner Calm.

1:28 pm

time to go… wander through the store … treat myself to a soft cone on the way out…head for home.

5:29 pm.

@home, just awakened from a short nap…spring indeed has arrived…sleepy…tree pollens… or something in the air… Dolly sent text: she wants to learn how to sew, make clothes…funny, I was looking through my ginormous photo library – oh how it needs to be weeded – ran across several pics of Dolly, easily 5-6 years ago, trying out my sewing machine; she took to it quite readily, I seem to recall …what goes around comes around.

joining Kat and friends for another round of unraveled wednseday.

…the air has that just washed, after a Spring rain smell – tho’ it hasn’t rained, just clouds. The grey clouds and white flowering trees make a pretty, soft palette. Tho’ I’ve been up a couple hours, I’m just now settling in to:

    journal, write …
    revisit last week …
    plot out this week …
note that for a change, I’m the one with a medical appointment …
overall, a week with just the right balance …

And that’s a good thing! Always welcomed!

Here’s hoping that your week also has just the right balance, too!

Cheers~
